Scheduled

Dear Customer,

we are going to update the a9s platform during the scheduled timeframe.

Announcements:
Runtime
Offline buildpack NodeJS

Beginning with NodeJS buildpack version v1.8.38 the option to build offline packages for the cflinuxfs3 stack was removed.

The fact that there is no cflinuxfs3 version of said buildpack currently breaks the update-offline-buildpack step of the deploy-cf task of the pipeline. Therefore we will exclude the NodeJS buildpack for v1.68.0 from the automatic bump logic and it needs to get updated manually.

With platform release v1.70.0 we plan to insert NodeJS again to the offline buildpack update automation to automatically bump the cflinuxfs4 version of the buildpack again.
Unsupport
Ubuntu Bionic Stemcell

End of support: For the release v1.69.0 / v64.0.0 we end support for the following deprecated Stemcell version:
Ubuntu Bionic Stemcell: Ubuntu Bionic has been marked as end-of-life by their vendor since April 2023.

Regular support will not be provided for service Instances using these stemcells after the release of anynines-deployment v64.0.0. This does not mean that we will reject support requests or break running Service Instances after the update of anynines-deployment, but any bug fixes or security updates for these versions will not be provided.

Data Services (e.g. removal, deprecation, unsupported, new services)
a9s Messaging 3.12 / 3.13

We removed the offering of a9s Messaging 3.12 / 3.13 from the a9s Data Services, as this version is now unsupported on account of it reaching its EOL on June 2024 / Sep 2024.

We removed the files, version specific examples, references and documentation pages related to the unsupported version. It is particularly important to emphasize that we have removed the offering from the a9s Service Broker catalogue of a9s Messaging.

This means that it is imperative that you ensure there are no Service Instances of this particular a9s Messaging version running any more, before upgrading to this version.

Upcoming Unsupport
a9s Postgresql

For the release v1.72.0 / v67 (expected end of November 2025), we plan to execute the deprecation of the following a9s Data Service version: a9s PostgreSQL 13

The deprecation phase is planned to last until v70 (expected end of February 2026), in which the deprecated version will become unsupported. You can learn more about our deprecation process in a9s Data Service Life-Cycle Stages and about upcoming deprecation and end of support in the a9s Data Services Major Updates and Deprecation Roadmap.

The update procedure is structured into 3 stages:

Stage 1: Update of the Runtime
Stage 2: Update of the a9s Data Service Framework
Stage 3: Update of all existing a9s Data Service instances

The stages have the following impact:

Stage 1:
- Restart of all applications. For slow starting applications with a single instance configuration this might introduce a downtime of up to 5 minutes in addition to application startup time.
- Restart of the API. Single requests to the API might fail but subsequent requests shall pass.

Stage 2:
- Creation, update and deletion of new or existing a9s Data Services instances will be unavailable for up to 5 minutes.
- The availability of existing a9s Data Service instances will not be affected by this.

Stage 3:
- All a9s Data Service instances will be restarted which causes single instances to be not available for up to 5 minutes.
- You may see your app reconnecting to the master node while the service instance gets updated.

We'll provide an update as soon as we finish the respective stage.

Best regards,
The anynines Team
